Bathe in the thermal pools
Terra Nostra Park and Poça da Dona Beija are both a short walk away. Bring a dark swimsuit: the iron-rich water stains light fabric.
Eat cozido das Furnas
A stew slow-cooked in pots buried in the volcanic ground by the lake. Restaurants have only a few pots a day, so book a day ahead.
Walk around Furnas Lake
Watch the cozido pots being lifted from the fumaroles around midday, then follow the lakeside trail to the chapel.
Catch the view from Pico do Ferro
The best viewpoint over the valley and the lake, 15 minutes by car.
